Radio Deregulation:  Has It Served Citizens and Musicians?
The Future of Music Coalition, an organization founded to address inequities in music-related industries and empower independent musicians, researched the effects of the Telecommunications Act of 1996.  The 147 page report analyzes research data to methodically gauge the impact of ownership consolidation.  The results (summarized here) conclude that commercial radio has virtually locked out airplay to all but five major labels.
