Surreal Ceremonies is a record label/site dedicated to my own pursuit in sharing music (and other junk) that I enjoy.  The site is somewhat minimal, some to which is attributed to my dislike of computer generated design as a whole.  Vector graphics, Adobe Illustrator, and public expectation of what is considered “professional” has literally ruined design, aesthetic, and style.  Many things designed via computer not only lack a soul, but are not memorable nor create a sense of zeitgeist; we are living in style-less times.  I often find myself rummaging through thrift stores to find things from yesteryear that have embraced a style of a time period.

Computer design has also erased a sense of
craft.  Even in the era of post-war minimal architecture and design, modern architecture manifested elements of craft since the era of the Bauhaus.  Computers erase any sense of error, but to err is human.  It is the error in things produced that makes them unique or treasured.  Asymmetry and abstraction transcend mere appearance.

But enough with critique.

I like pop records; and rockin’ out.

Keith Sapsford, 14, Australian, hid in the wheel housing of a Japan Air Lines Tokyo-bound jet in Sydney.  John Gilpin, an amateur photographer, was testing his new camera lens as the plane took off and unwittingly caught Keith Sapsford's 200 foot plunge to death.
